Following his oral presentation in the competition with five finalists, Sayantan won the prestigious Wayne B. Nottingham Prize. His talk covered his Ph.D. thesis, "Probing Photophysical and Photochemical Processes via Nano-Confined Localized Surface Plasmons".

The Wayne B. Nottingham Prize was established from contributions given in memory of Professor Wayne B. Nottingham of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) by many of his friends and associates. The prize is awarded annually to a student based on their Ph.D. thesis. This prize represents a seminal honor since many Nottingham winners have gone on to become leaders in the field of surface science. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_B._Nottingham_Prize).
